We live inside a story. We all have narratives about where we came from, where we are, and where we’re going. We shape our experience by the kinds of stories we choose to tell. They inform our decisions, our thoughts, and the way we feel about things. We’re all authors. For a very long time, before writing became a common trade, telling stories was a matter of speech. We continue this tradition today. We hear stories from our family, our friends, and the stories we tell ourselves and others. When airtime is limited, we may choose to write instead. We can be blunt about it, or take the same events and encode them in a different setting, turning it into fiction. Following the thread of our curiosity, we show the world who we are, which is why I write: for the pleasure of bringing worlds that excite me to life, taking delight in the idea that somewhere, someone else might enjoy it too.
