Story
Forest 2029

I wake up to a beautiful concert of birds singing with all kinds of melodies and with all kinds of tones. I open my eyes and see a little red-headed bird looking at me in the eyes. I’m lying on the ground. I get up and see my surroundings. I’m lost in my favorite place. It seems like I spent the night here. I lift my gaze to try and see the birds singing on top of the trees but they are great at their job of not letting anyone see them. Exept for one. A blue winged little bird looking down from a pretty tall branch. I whistle to the bird and ikt flyers next to me and lands on a fallen trunk with moss on top. It’s looking at me with it’s head laid on one side. It winks at me and I smile at it in return. I move slowly towards him and try not tho scare it away but he isn’t afraid of me so he makes a little jump and lands on my finger. I lift him to the hight of my face whistle again, this time it answers and flyers away. I look around me once again to see if I recognize where I am but it seems like this paradise is infinite and peaceful. There’s no one around. Just me and nature.

I wonder what time is it and I look at the sun to try and guess. It’s past midday. I see start walking and the birds singing is left behind me. I’m begging to feel hungry and I find some mushrooms. I find some dry little trunks and make a fire to cook them. After I eat them I kill the fire and make sure it dies completely. I remain seated to observe the animals around. I see a squirrel running down a tree and then another squirrel running towards the other and I watch them play on the highest branches. Then suddenly I hear dry leaves cracking behind me, so I turn around and see a little baby deer. He’s curious, I can tell. He’s doubting about getting near me so I reach him with my hand and touch it’s head. He gets a little bit scared but at the end he ends up trusting me and he walks near me. He lays on my side and I lay on his side and we both fall asleep for a while.

When I wake up the sun is set and all the birds in the forest are singing once again. I think for the first time of the kind of day this is. It’s not it’s not just any normal day. It’s the last day of humanity. Thoughts of happiness and freedom cross my mind and I have an impulse to run and touch the sun. I get up and from one moment to another I feel the wind whispering in my ears and making my hair fly behind me. I keep running towards the sun. I smile. I cry. I stop and lean on a trunk. I catch my breath while looking straight to the sun. It’s supposed to be un healthy but I won’t see anything more beautiful ever again. I’m on the edge of a big lake painted with a beautiful reflection of the sun above the water. I see some clouds forming around the sun turning orange and pink. I see a pair of geese flying in front of the sun moving it’s wings smoothly and perfectly.

I imagine all animals living in peace because they’re greatest threat disappeared. Their wish come true. If only I could see the natural world in peace. There’s no place for all species in this world called Earth and because I love it, I must leave. With tears but a beautiful last memory of the last sunset. The last day I had to enjoy life, was the most beautiful I’ve ever had. Thank you, ducks; thank you, birds; thank you, sun; thank you, green leaves; thank you, colorful sunsets; thank you, wind; thank you trees; thank you, butterflies; thank you, bees; thank you, fish; and thank you, planet Earth, it was an honour.
