What a crazy week!

On Monday I got up early because I always take the train from my station in Riedenburg at 6:13 a.m. I took my bike with me. When I came home from work in the evening, the air was so hot that I arrived bathed in sweat. My friend called to tell me he wouldn’t be able to swim in the lake that day, but he would bring two pizzas for dinner in an hour. Later my friend called because he couldn’t make it. So I went to bed hungry.

During the train ride on Tuesday I started reading The Canterville Ghost. Time flies faster with a funny story than looking out the same window day after day. It takes almost half an hour to get to Rankweil, where I get off. Then I drive another fifteen minutes by bike to the company where I work. As soon as I arrived that day, my boss ran into me and handed me an urgent project. I had to stay longer and my lunch break was shortened.

On Wednesday I had to work from 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. with no lunch break or anything healthy to eat. Thank goodness there’s always some chocolate in my drawer! The tests of the new machine lasted so long that my boss drove me to the train station in Rankweil and the bike was left in the corridor of the company. The only positive thing was that The Canterville Ghost is really a funny story. Several times I had to laugh out loud and that day I was the crazy person on the train. When I arrived at the train station Riedenburg, the grocery store was already closed on my way home and I was hungry again. When a bus came along, I decided to shorten my walking distance. A little later I was standing at the door in the bus, but was so terribly tired that I forgot to press the stop button and drove on to the stop after the next. Fortunately for me, there was a SPAR store on the corner that was still open.

On Thursday I didn’t have a bike and had to walk. As I hurried up the steps, the train was pulling in. There were enough free places, so I sat down and pulled out my Oscar Wilde book again. With one ear I heard Chris Loners’ voice announcing the next stop, “The next station … next station Hard-Fussach”, and I knew that I had jumped on the wrong train towards Switzerland. Two minutes later I got off at the next station to wait for the train going in the opposite direction. It came ten minutes later and was almost empty. I sat down to read a little more, but instead of taking me back to Riedenburg, this train stopped in the middle of the route. From my window I saw mount Pfänder and the sun rose behind it. I closed my eyes for a second, it suddenly dawned on me that there is more to life than just being at work on time. When I opened my eyes, I saw a beautiful sunrise and my train to Rankweil passed by.
