Story

I shouldn’t have said that. Mouth shut, always five feet away, that’s my place, that’s where I belong. Not in front of the Princess, laying my heart out for her. Myra doesn’t say anything, she just stands up. It’s like my eyes are drawn to her by a magnet. She’s the sun to a midday sky, something I shouldn’t look at and still, I can’t help it because she lights me up.
„You still are all bloody.“ She looks me up and down and sticks up her nose. Myra cleaned my face, but my arms, hands and especially my clothes are dirty. „We should do something about that.“
She pulls her simple dress over her head. And just like that, I can’t look away from the sun. I focus on her gorgeous face, but that’s not even the best part of her, not the one that made me fall for her in the first place.
Made me fall for her.
Simply in her underpants, she smiles down at me. I can’t look away, I just can’t. „What?“, she asks with a cocky grin on her face. „Scared?“
Maybe I am, only a little bit. „God, how can you be this beautiful?“
Myra’s eyes glimmer and I swear when the time comes for me to die, I want those eyes to be the last thing to grace me. She turns around and runs off, straight into the lake that must be freezing in the dead of night. What the hell am I doing here? As I watch Myra bathe in moonlight, I decide this night belongs to us. I get rid of my own dress, leaving my thoughts and worries to burn in the fire, and join her into the water
The lake is even colder than I thought and I start to shiver. But I can’t go back to the warm fire when she’s already shoulder-deep, waiting for me. As soon as the water sways around my waist, I calm down. All I can see of Myra is her head, sticking out of the surface. The few inches she has on me force me to stop before I can reach her.
She grins. Myra always loved being taller than me. „Why don’t you come over here?“
„I’m afraid I would go under.“ Her laugh cuts through the dark of night. She’s giggling when she takes a few steps forward, stopping right in front of me, our faces almost touching.
„Tell me one truth.“, she demands.
„What do you want to know?“ In the darkness, I feel like laying out every part of myself.
„If you did not want to leave, why did you?“
„Do you remember my father?“ She nods, so I continue. „One morning, after I’d spent the night with you, he caught me. He was angry. Immediately, he gathered all of our things and left the palace, to put me in training. I’m already a disgrace to him as it is he didn’t want to add ‚father of the Princess‘ mistress‘ to the list.“
„Why did you not just refuse to leave?“, she says, loudly, so I can hear her.
I don’t think I’ve ever said it out loud. Not that I had anyone to share my reasons with. „I knew there was a chance of coming back to you if I trained hard enough and became the best.“
„I do not want you to be my mistress either. I want you to have all of me.“ Myra smiles hesitantly. She swims closer and wraps her hand around my neck, bringing her body closer to mine. „Let us go somewhere, nobody knows us.“
I don’t say anything, I simply nod. The next thing I know is that her lips are on mine. They’re warm and soft and everything I’ve ever wanted. I grab her waist, pulling her to me. Her skin brushes over mine, electric touches that set my soul on fire. I wouldn’t want it any other way.
