Chapter 3

Story
Berlin

As I get on the dim lit street of Berlin the night air is the first thing I notice. Big cities just have other air. It’s loaded with so many different indescribable things but it’s by far my favorite. I used to live in a town with a beautiful landscape surrounding. But there was nothing more. The same people everyday. The same houses. No bus or train stations anywhere near my hometown and it felt like being in jail without an escape. But I made mine and I will never turn back.

As I try to fill my lungs with as much Oxygen as I can I turn left and wander down the street slowly. Maybe I should run again. Those fuckers surely are somewhere around here to come and get me but I just can’t bring myself to run again. I’m so tired by now. That situation in the shop just wore me out. Like a lot. First I am chased. Then nearly found and apparently a knight in shining armor (or maybe in my case in all black?) gets in a shop in the middle of the night to my rescue.

Wait. In the middle of the night? Fuck. What time is it ? Hastily, I almost rip my smartphone out of my jeans back pocket. The screen awakes with the low battery symbol and in agony a small scream escapes my lips. Oh no. I gotta run to the next train station now to get out of Berlin and away from him. I was to meet my boss in the hotel lobby at 2 at all costs. But my way to him just took to much time since I had to escape the ones who followed me first. He is gonna fly without me. Probably giving a shit about where I am and in what state.

Now I do run again. I shouldn’t be to far from the next Metro station. They are all over Berlin so there must be one somewhere close by. Then I sense a presence behind me. Somebody is catching up with my pace and turning me around with a little force. Startled by the suddenness I trip while being spun around and crash into something warm and solid. It’s the same cologne and scent from the shop that engulfs my senses now that I am held by strong arms that prevent me from falling. Standing again I balance myself away from the hoodie covered chest my face was pressed into while falling. “Why are you running again?” The same voice that just got me out of the shop. I lift my eyes to meet the honey irises but in the night light and with only dim orange lighting from the street lamps they are back to black.

“Just trying to catch the next train” I mutter while shuffling away from him. With a nod he loosens his grip on my arms that held me while falling and balls his hands into fists at his side again. He is still wearing that damn mask so I can’t really see anything else of his face except his gleaming black eyes.

As I turn around I hear him whisper “wrong way” and while confusedly turning I see him walking in the other direction. Fast. I am standing there frozen thinking about what to do. Even now it could be a trap in which he wants me to follow him to get me to the leather jacket man. But I doubt that. He still doesn’t appear to be one of them and if he really knows where the next train station is I should be following him. So I choose that and try to catch up with him. He is already two houses ahead and I swear to myself this is the last time I’m gonna run today.
