Story

Before Everett got the chance to implode, Theo’s cold voice surprised both of us. „Cut it, you two. You behave like fucking children.“ Did I feel a little put out right now? Yes. Everett’s mouth opened as if he wanted to tell his little brother to fuck off, but Theo’s glare shut him up for an instant. I tried to hide my snickering. „Get it together; the people are already watching, and you know how they are with gossip.“ I glanced around us, and he was right. The few people around us were already staring at us, just waiting for something scandalous to happen. I gave them my cutest smile; maybe they would choke on my sweetness. But they don’t – bummer. I let out an annoyed breath and leaned forward towards Theo. „You look handsome tonight, love.“ I kissed his cheek while looking Everett straight in the eyes. Everett lifted his hand to scratch his nose with his… Oh, no way! He just flipped me off, bastard. Before I had the chance to flip him off as well, Theo grabbed my hand to kiss my knuckles. „You also look absolutely lovely, sunshine.“ Everett just rolled his eyes at our antics. „You should get a room. It’s disgusting how in love you are.“ His cold stare fixed us right in place. And again, there were no more emotions left in his eyes. Theo and I just looked at each other. Then we both fell into a ridiculous fit of giggles. The confusion on Everett’s face just added to it. „Dear brother mine, I told you a thousand times before that we love each other, like siblings do. There is nothing more and nothing less.“ Theo’s warm smile made me feel whole once again. He is right; I may have had my first kiss with Theo, but that was years ago. There could never be more between us. Theo is my first love. Well, not romantically, but without him? I couldn’t even imagine a world that didn’t have him in it. He is my safe place; he understands me even when I don’t talk; he is my person. I felt two pairs of eyes watching me carefully. „Yes?“ My answer felt more like a question, but that didn’t stop Theo from grinning from ear to ear and Everett from groaning with frustration. Okay, what did I do? „Theo, you can’t be serious. She wasn’t even paying attention!“ While that was true, I couldn’t let him be right. „I was!“ Everett’s eyes snapped to meet mine. Clearly pissed off because of my offended tone. OK, we both know I was lying, but what fun is it if I don’t rile him up every chance I get? „So sweetheart…-“ I hated it when he called me that. It was not some cute pet name; this name was full of venom when directed at me. „You want me to believe that you are okay with what Theodore was suggesting?“ I fucked up; I had no clue what Theo said, but I won’t admit that, of course. Praying to God that it was harmless. „Then I’m happy to see you next Wednesday for our very first ‚Get-To-Know-Each-Other‘ date.“ With one last screeching look in my direction, he left. Shock. I was in complete shock. What just happened? Praying to God really did me no good when it came to a situation that involved Everett. Maybe praying to Satan will do the trick next time. I didn’t even realise Theo’s arm was around my waist as he started walking around the room again. „He’ll come; don’t worry, darling. He was just surprised that you said yes.“ He was surprised? I was stunned. Theo’s gaze was filled with so many emotions that I had to swallow my own. „Theo, why is this so important to you? You know, we’ve acted like that since we were little kids.“ I held his hand tight in mine. He looked down at our hands and gave me a weak smile. „It just is, sunshine.“
