I Have Discovered That I Have Powers

Story

As I came into this world, I was told many things. First, I was given my name because I didn’t get to choose it myself. Apparently, that’s just how it works…

As I grew up, I learned what was right and what was wrong. People told me who to be friends with and who to avoid. My classmates and I heard many of the same lessons. We were encouraged to work hard: “Try to get good grades.” We were reminded to eat our vegetables: “It’s good to stay away from soda.” And we were warned to be careful with our clothes because getting dirty didn’t make people happy back home.

Every morning, my teacher walks into class with a big, important list. “Remember this!” “Don’t forget that!” So many reminders! But you know what? I think I could make a big list of my own. I hear things all the time, like, “Time to brush your teeth!” People like to help and teach, they also like to repeat.

My list keeps getting longer… “Do this…” “Don’t forget that…” But as I look at it, something feels off. It’s not complete! There’s something missing. No one ever told me—maybe they forgot—something really important about me. I have powers. Real powers!

I have the power to change things. I started changing my parents’ lives even before I was born. Back then, they were younger and had more freedom, but now they think about me all the time. And guess what? The world changed, too. It used to have one less person, and now it’s a little bigger because I’m here.

People always said only superheroes like Superman or Wonder Woman had powers. But what about me? I found out that I have the power to make the world better just by picking up trash on the beach. I can also make someone’s day a little brighter by inviting them to play. Big or small, with or without a cape, I’m learning that we all have powers we can use every day.

When I think about all the great inventions in history, I realize I have even more powers. People used to think we could never fly. But now, when we look up, we see planes in the sky! A long time ago, two brothers dreamed about flying and wanted to see the clouds up close. They used their power to dream and their power to invent, and they made the first airplane. People once said flying was impossible, but those brothers combined their powers and made it possible.

I have the power to dream and invent, too. People might say certain things are impossible today, but who knows? Maybe I’ll use my powers to make them possible.

At the beginning, I said I was told many things, but now I’m realizing there’s so much more to discover. Life is becoming exciting as I uncover the magic inside me. Maybe I have wings, or maybe I just have big dreams. I don’t know yet… But what I do know is that I want to learn more about my powers and use them!

Challenge: Think about the powers you have and then draw yourself as a superhero or superheroine using your amazing powers!
