“Hello”, he took her hand and kissed it tenderly, “what are you doing here all by yourself?”

The woman smiled as she responded: “Oh, just the duty of participating in social gatherings occasionally, I suppose.” His dark brown eyes were wandering all over her face and body.

“Allow me to introduce myself: I'm Lieutenant-Colonel Alain Moreau. And who do I have the pleasure of talking to right now?”

The woman glanced at the crowd in the middle of the room. Everyone was dancing and no one paid them any attention, so she decided to keep the conversation going.

“Gwendolen Schneider, it's my pleasure.” The Frenchman looked at her with surprise: “A german lady, then?” She nodded. The man was still admiring her beauty, his eyes wandered over her face, to the delicate form of her lips and returned to meet her eyes again. “Would you consider me so bold, to ask you for a dance?” Gwendolen hesitated, but she couldn't say no to the charming man in front of her. There was something about his aura that had her in a chokehold immediately and almost made her forget her intentions. He reached out his arm for her to take, and she took it.

Moreau made sure he was close to the young woman throughout the dance, and occasionally he found himself lost in her eyes. Something about her piqued his interest, even though he couldn't say what exactly it was.

The man took this opportunity to ask her some questions. “So, mademoiselle, what is such a beauty like you doing in Paris?” She had to chuckle softly, his compliments made her cheeks lightly blush and she could feel it. “I just wanted to visit the city, people always say it's a rather magnificent one”, she explained. This response made the Frenchman curious; as a military man he knew about the current political situation and it was definitely not the time for fun trips. But he decided to go with it for now and see if she'd reveal more about her intentions throughout the conversation.
