The next morning, after a bully coffee, David stormed into the office. The place was a mess — people were running around, shouting into phones. However, chaos is meaningless for David. He cared about one very specific target : finding out who had screwed him over.
He made a beeline for the IT department : “Where’s Phil?” David barked as he entered the room.
Phil, the head of security, looked up from his screen. He was a pudgy guy with thinning hair, and right now, he looked like he hadn’t slept in days. Well, tough shit : that’s life. David wanted his answers.
“David, we’re still trying to—” Phil started, but David cut him off.
“Cut the crap, Phil. I want to know who did this, and I want to know now. How the hell did they get in? Aren’t you supposed to be some kind of security genius? This shouldn’t have happened!”
Phil swallowed hard and gestured to a chair, but David didn’t sit.
“We’re dealing with something… unusual,” Phil said, choosing his words carefully. “The attack didn’t come from the usual sources. It was… sophisticated. We’re talking about a level of hacking that I’ve never seen before.”
David’s eyes narrowed. “What the hell does that mean? Sophisticated? You’re supposed to be the best : that’s why we pay you. So, stop giving me bullshit and tell me who did this!”
Phil wiped the sweat from his forehead.
“David, this wasn’t just some basement hacker. This was… this was big. When he entered the system, the time he needed to unlock all codes was unfairly short.”
David slammed his fist on the table. “I don’t care about the damn technical details! Who. Did. This ? ”
Phil hesitated, but then he pulled up a screen. “We traced some of the data back to a group. They call themselves “Sharings”. They’re… well, they’re not like anything we’ve dealt with before. They’ve got their hands on some serious tech, David. I think… I think they might be using a quantum computer.”
David blinked curiously for a second. He asked himself if it would really be possible. But whatever this fucking vigilante used, it was not time for debriefing but for action. “Sharings, huh? So they think they can take down my spoils and just walk away ?.”
“You’re gonna help me find them, Phil. Phil nodded, while David could see the fear in his eyes. Good. Fear was a powerful motivator. It made people work harder, faster. And right now, David needed results. After some research, Phil gave him the address of a very far country village named “Sharings”.
David was going to take them down. One by one.
