Q.
‘Our section is devoted to promoting youth freedom and empowerment. These topics are such a high priority for our Member States, so we are very busy implementing as many projects as we can. The Member States recognize that youth are the future of their countries, and we recognize that youth are the future of our international organizations as well. We want young people today to have equal opportunities for high-quality education, employment, and financial security. We want young adults to achieve freedom and independence. More recently, our section has been placing larger emphasis on women’s education and employment opportunities. Stories about young women like Malala Yousafzai have inspired our Member States to take a closer look at these themes.’
Q.
‘Generally, our section follows the organizational template of hosting meeting with experts to gather information on a specific subject, then publishing documents compiling this information for our Member States. Right now, we are working on two major publications. Our project on “Young Women’s Access to Education in 2023” is in the process of being edited for publication, while we are still discussing important points in meetings for our project on “Young Women’s Access to Employment in 2023”. Our external experts are generally from positions in government or professors at universities that are tasked with analyzing these issues nationally, so they have up-to-date statistics on their country’s youth. At our meetings, they present the statistics and general trends of their countries, then later provide a written contribution summarizing the information for our publication. We also provide recommendations to Member States on improvement, so they can achieve better statistics in the coming years.’
Q.
‘Oh! Sure, I can tell you about them. We have fantastic staff in our section. They really work very hard and are very dedicated to this cause. Many of our senior staff spent their careers working as lawyers, professors, and government officials. They come here closer to retirement to provide their expertise to the benefit of this section. They analyze all the information and provide very insightful recommendations to our Member States. We also have great general staff who help with the administrative tasks required to organize such large conferences and meetings. With the publications, this organization also requires a lot of paperwork, which the general staff take care of to ensure that all processes are running smoothly. Finally, we also have a really wonderful internship program that provides recent graduates and current students with employment opportunities at our organization. They get to learn a lot about our work and develop useful skills for their careers. We are so proud to have many female interns and interns from developing countries.’
