Alone amid the waves

Story

Kilian, Ana and Aidas travel to the Major Palace, which is not only a fortress, but also an island, surrounded by the sea. The rage in Ana’s heart becomes even bigger now that she gets to see her father, so happy about the return of his “lost brother”. She knows that her father, his half-brother Zaka and his half-sister Desdemona, were the ones that had wanted to kill her mother, her siblings and her eleven years ago. A Ball in Killian’s honour takes place…” I see some kind of absence in your eyes, I thought you would have liked to participate in a Royal Ball…” Aidas remarked, unknowing of what was happening in Ana’s mind, the latter who was imagining every scenario in which she would have killed Zaka, every Ball she would have attended to, if she hadn’t been forced to go away, the dresses she would have worn, and that maybe she would have been the one marrying Aidas, not Daria. She could see the two of them dance together… All this while drinking wine, a lot of wine, so she raised her glass: “Let’s toast to your marriage!” Aidas took the glass from her hand and asked judgementally: “Are you serious?” “What is your problem? To eat and drink for free is the best thing in the world, why shouldn’t I exploit the occasion?” Ana was being herself. “I am not talking about that, apart from the fact that you are exaggerating, I was talking about the marriage.” He had become red now: “I don’t want to marry Daria and you probably know why.” What was he hinting to? He was Zaka’s son, she couldn’t trust him… “Ah that” Ana replied laughing: “I don’t care about your marriage and I don’t even care about you. If you believe a pretty face is enough to enchant me, you are off-road, my friend.” So she took her glass from his hands, looked deeply in his eyes and clarified: “and no one tells me what I can or can’t do, understood?” She went to the terrace then, to keep drinking unbothered, but Aidas was still watching, why? What did he want? Was he now in charge of guarding her or something? His observing her would only cease, if she went away, so she went to the shore. The stormy sea was the only sight that corresponded with the inside of her head, but her thoughts were slowly losing weight and began to orbit around Aidas’ smile. She had a bath: the water was cold, it contained all of her inner fire. She couldn’t confess to him what she was feeling, she mustn’t, even if he was feeling the same. She gave herself over to the waves and whispered into the darkness all the things she would have wanted to tell him, then she heard his voice: “Are you crazy Antigone? What are you doing there? Come to the shore, immediately!” “Really, you followed me? Who do you believe you are?” “You are drunk, I can’t let you swim! What if you drown?” he took off his shoes and was heading towards her. “I am not drunk!” “This is exactly what a drunk person would say!” He was determined to save her from herself, so he went into the water, but Ana was angry: “What part of I don’t care about you, do you not understand?” “Good, then I am going now, if you say that you don’t feel anything for me, I will go and marry Daria with no regrets.” She swam to him, then got up, with the water that was soaking trough and dripping down her dress, letting Aidas glimpse at her silhouette, illuminated by the moon. He could do nothing but watch her, enchanted. “You can say to Zaka” she came then even closer and whispered in his ear: “that the one capable to take me in, has still to be born.” Then she drew her lips near to his, keeping her glance fixed at his eyes, as if to kiss him, but just then she fled, leaving him alone amid the waves.
