Story

Since I learn to laugh at myself when I look back at some experiences, I risk writing about them, even at the risk of you laughing at me.Year 1970 – it is my 1st year of apprenticeship and 1st visit to a disco. I walked up and down in front of the disco for 15 minutes before overcoming myself and going inside. Luckily there were still few people in the disco. I ordered a coke and sat down on a table. A few minutes later a nice girl came to the table and asked me if I wanted to dance. Yes, I said. I had no idea how to dance and tried to imitate the movements of the others. Suddenly the disc jockey paused. I stood on the dance floor with the girl and was blocked not knowing what to talk about. At least I asked what her name was. Yes, that’s it. I left the disco and was home by 10pm. It was the only time my mother said, “Well, home so early?”In the 70’s, wild western movies were my friend’s and mine favorite movies. Afterwards we always felt like this heroes. So four of us had the idea of going to Rodaun, a natural area near Vienna on Sundays. There someone discovered a cave. We bought several cans of beans and chicken thighs. Then we looked for a cozy place in the cave, not too far from the entrance. With collected wood we made a campfire in the cave, put in the chicken thighs and opened cans with the beans. We liked it. Only the smoke in the cave did not want to escape to the outside, as we wanted. Afterwards we smelled like bacon from a smokehouse.Wolfgang and I worked as apprentices in the same company. Since I didn’t have a moped, he often took me with him on his KTM Moped 50 ccm. It was an evening in Vienna on Maria-Theresien-Strasse. The traffic light was red. Wolfgang skilfully drove between the standing cars. But the space between 2 cars was too narrow for me as my knees were further apart in the back. It lifted me off the seat and I was standing on the road. I called after Wolfgang, he stopped, I ran after him and everything went well. I overslept the next morning. At the company, my boss kindly asked me if I was okay and if something had happened yesterday. I had already forgotten the experience from the previous evening and said everything was ok. He said I didn’t need to protect Wolfgang, he had already told me everything. It turned out that because I wasn’t in the office on time, Wolfgang was worried if I was okay and related to the event from the previous evening. Anyway, in the end everyone was happy and reassured. One of my friends and mine favorite local in the 9th district of Vienna had a pinball machine. After some time we found out, that every time the last ball was gone and the ending number was ‘7’ there was a free game. We spent many hours there. We didn’t know if the local owner knew about it. In any case, we consumed enough soft drinks.
