It’s impossible. One species can’t do all of that, they’re not capable.
You’re wrong, it doesn’t even take a whole species to realize this. All it takes is the greed of a few.
Still, it’s beyond my imagination.
Oh, so if you can’t imagine something, it didn’t happen, am I hearing you right?
That’s not what I wanted to say, it’s just…
Imagine killing about one thousand, one hundred and fifty of us each year.
Oddly specifically.
In the beginning, the rest of us tried to count our loss.
Our hunters always reassured us they were only taking what was needed.
All of us, you know. Making no difference or leaving anyone behind, no matter the age or if they’re any use to you.
You already said so. Still…
Yeah, I did. But you don’t seem to listen.
I try, I really do!
We were herded into shallow bays like this one, killed by hand, without discrimination.
Later, when we no longer hunted you for food, your scales gained immensely in value on the market. Anyone who had them was considered rich because they were so rare. We couldn’t have caught that many of you, otherwise we would have had more of them and that would have lowered the price.
Whole families… all killed at once, decimation entire families in one fell swoop. Mine too, you know.
I… I’m incredibly sorry for your loss…
The impact that had on our entire population is brutal. And for us there is no evidence that any of that could be necessary to you at all.
Even if it was necessary, it’s not worth the price you had to pay for us. That’s not fair at all.
It’s just indescribably cruel, that’s all it is.
