Story

Who would’ve guessed? I am late. Again. At this point, I figured that being late could count as my new personal trait. My thoughts are running wild, like always. Standing a few feet in front of me, I spotted him. Theodore Casters, the one and only. His blond hair is hanging in front of his blue eyes, which always reminds me of the ocean on a stormy day. Looking like this should be a crime. I slowed my pace as he sensed me staring at him. “Here I am, waiting for you,” he cooed, as I walked slowly into his open arms. “Late as always.” I smiled. Nobody gives hugs like Theo. He chuckled into my ear, “I’ll never understand how a person can be this late, this often.” I gasped, as I let go of him. “Aurelia stopped me in front of her shop, to show me her new flowers.” At that, Theo rolled his eyes. “Stop rolling your eyes like you couldn’t see that coming!” He tucked me under his arm, before we started walking. “Yeah, I definitely saw you coming late again.” Offended I pinched his left arm which he had still swung over me. “So, you bought the flowers?” stopping at a red light he looked down at me. “Of course, I bought the flowers.” I scoffed. “I mean how could I not? You try to say No to that sweet old lady, shoving flowers in your face.” A soft smile tucked on his lips, as he leaned down, taking a look in his eyes that I couldn’t quiet place at that moment. “Never change, Sunshine.” Irritated, because of his sudden mood change I looked at him questionably. “Why should I?” He averted his eyes to the floor. He looked like he had to catch himself before he could look at me once again. Theo smiled as if the last two minutes hadn’t just happened. “I would’ve said no.” Completely confused, I just stared at him. “Come again?” I asked. “Aurelia? I would have said No to her.” Letting the previous topping drop, I beamed at him. “Yeah, I would like to see you try Theo.” Theo seemed to be in another world inside his head, it was nothing new to me, but after the strange conversation we had a few minutes ago – I couldn’t shake this awful feeling. “My Lady.” With a deep bow Theo opened the door for me “Well, thank you my Lord”. It’s weird, I know, but our families are one of the oldest in Lyndoncrest. Our ancestors built this city with the help of a few others. That’s why a few families are allowed to hold titles. These families mostly care about their reputation, money and, on some days, their heirs. A sarcastic laugh escapes me just from the thought of that. Growing up in my family was both exhausting on one day and utterly beautiful on the other. Looking back at my childhood, I cringed. Etiquette lessons in the morning, tennis and riding at midday, art and music in the afternoon. But on lovely days, I wouldn’t change a thing in the whole world. Especially when my mother tried to teach me a few things about the founding season. Walking back to the table, Theo threw himself in the chair in front of me. “Are you ready for the coming founders season?” I slyly smirked at him. With a loud groan, he threw his head back. “I really hate all these balls.” I smiled at him, “I think that could be the only thing that you and your brother have in common.” Everett Casters, Theodore’s older brother. We have all known each other since we were babies, and yet, I find that we have absolutely nothing in common. ” I mean, he is a grumpy git and I think that he would gladly throw me over a cliff if he ever had a chance to.” I winced at the thought of the cliffs a few miles from the Casters residence. Theo’s laughter had me looking back up at him and I felt a little tuck on the corner of my lips.
