Story

I felt timeless. Was it day or night? I couldn’t tell you, and to be honest, I also couldn’t care less. Why would I pay attention to something so unimportant? It felt useless to think about it when my head was filled with so many more important thoughts. I wish I was startled when my door busted open, just to reveal an angry little French lady. Before I could even tell her to get out, she started cursing in French. So I set up in bed and watched her. How she stormed to my windows to tear the curtains apart to open my windows. She then marched around the room, while ranting like a mad woman. I would definitely be afraid of her if I weren’t so angry at the same time. What does she think she is doing? I pressed myself against the headboard as she raged in my direction. Oh hell no, I tried to get away, but there is no escape when Bella is in a mood. The little lady grabbed my arm and practically dragged me to my bathroom. “Bella, what in the seven hells?” My body couldn’t function as fast as she dragged me through my room, and I stumbled after her. “You are going to get ready, and then you will leave the house for a few hours.” I almost forgot how pushy she can be. So I unwillingly did what was asked of me. “Parfaite! Now go.” I rolled my eyes at her while she pushed me towards the front door. Maybe if I-. But no, Bella’s face hardened. “Au revoir mon amour!” And with that, she slammed the door in my face. I really would hate her if only I could. So what should I do? Go to the park and drown myself in pity there? With one last defeated sigh, I turned back towards the street and started walking. Cursing Bella because, yes. The fresh air really felt good in my lungs. There I was, standing in front of our cafĂ©, not having the guts to go inside. “Are you going in or not? Some people don’t have all day.” A harsh voice interrupted me and with a mumbled “Yeah, sorry.”, I stepped into the cafĂ©. It felt like time had stopped here. Nothing changed, and it felt like Theo would be next to me any second now. My eyes burned as I stepped towards the counter to get my coffee, like always. I swallowed my tears back down and looked around for a place to sit. That’s when I saw him. Like every time he is near me, my eyes magically find his in a room full of people. He didn’t smile. He also didn’t wave or nod in my direction, but nonetheless, I walked to him. We both did not talk; we didn’t even look at each other. We sat there in silence, and it was comforting to know that we did not have to talk or even be nice to each other. We just existed in the same place at the same time. My phone rang with a text message from Bella, checking up on me. That’s when I realized something. “It’s Wednesday.” I was startled at my own voice; I didn’t even mean for my words to be spoken out loud. Is that why he was already here? Because of what Theodore asked us to do? “It is.” Everett’s raspy voice calmed me instantly. He sounded like he hadn’t talked for days. Which I could totally relate to. Seconds, minutes, or even hours passed when Everett stood, ready to leave. I couldn’t let him leave like that. Before he could pass me, I grabbed his arm and looked up at him. His surprise was clearly written in his eyes. “Everett, I- … Can you?” I don’t know what I wanted to say, because no words made any sense in my head. His whole demeanor changed, and he smiled softly at me. It calmed my racing thoughts at once. “Will you be there?” His smile was still the same as his eyes turned sad and lost once again. “I will be there waiting for you.” With one last look at me, he walked out of the cafĂ©. Leaving me in shock because of his last words.
