NO!

This can’t be.

His parents and siblings were crying on one side of the room, as doctors stood above him, frantically working.

A loud beeping sound came from one of the 10 or so machines he was hooked up to, and his face…

I couldn’t step into the room; it felt like my feet had been cemented in place.

No, it doesn’t happen that fast.

The beeping stopped.

That’s not how it’s supposed to happen.

The nurse stopped pressing on his chest.

We were supposed to have time.

The doctors slowly stopped working and started mumbling incoherently.

A last kiss, a last word, ANYTHING!

We were supposed to have time!

As the doctors slowly backed away from him, and one of them approached the family with an apologetic look on his face, I couldn’t stop myself from running to Ryan and grabbing his hand.

I looked at him, tears streaming down my face, as a nurse carefully placed a hand on my shoulder.

‘NO! Ryan, please no! You promised, you promised you would call! It wasn’t supposed to end like this!” I shouted, unable to control myself.

“Please! Please breathe again! Show me you’re alive! I love you, Ryan! Please! I’m here to catch you, just like you caught me! So please just stay alive!”
