“Let go of me!” the young girl screamed, frantically searching our eyes. The guards did not care for her begging, they simply continued dragging her away. The desperation in her voice made my heart crumble to pieces, she didn`t look older than twelve. “Her screaming won’t help her escape death. Feisty little thing.” Eren smirked like he had done every time another one of us was taken. Ever since the dragon brought me to the council of Arkasa, and I was thrown into this cell, I had to listen to his arrogant remarks. Two whole days, trying not to punch the idiotic sneer right of his face. “Would you shut up for once jerk? If you haven’t noticed yet, you are in the same cell and unlike you, the girl is certainly capable of surviving.” Eren solely rolled his eyes and dared to chuckle at my words. “Look who can fight back, fragile Ruby over there is feisty too. You might be able to withstand the games after all” He noted, while his blue orbs scanned me from top to bottom like he was assessing my weaknesses and strengths. I forgot all about my hatred and simply desired to believe him. I was aware that I had no chance of surviving the games, I had never fought in my life and even if I’d survive, one way or the other Cornel will make sure of my demise. The justice system in Arkasa had always been flawed. I knew that, but it was even worse when you’re its victim. It was simple, fight or die. Every civilian convicted of a crime was thrown into the government-invented games. They are merely called games to hide the cruelty of what they truly are. Even if you are one of the lucky ones that have fought their way through the games, Aeress is still going to send you out past the borders on `control missions`. It was her twisted way to assure Arkasa`s safety, if criminals don’t die in here they die out there. Past the borders not even she was able to control the magical creatures, it was a death mission. I had the urge to throw up, I was going to die. “Let the ransomed be free, as their lifeless bodies hit the ground” Puzzled I turned around and looked at the girl curled up in the corner. She hadn`t even lifted her gaze, and yet I was certain she was the one that spoke. Her golden-brown face was framed by divine black curls that looked just like Raya’s. “My Mum said that to us before she was convicted, and she was badass, so gotta be some truth to it, right?” The corners of her eyes crinkled, as her mouth opened in a genuine smile and yet the sadness in her gaze was still prominent. “I quite like that. I’m Ruby” I smiled back. “Oh yeah, I heard that much” the girl said while pointing at Eren, who simply grunted in response. “I’m Hope, quite the fit don’t you think?” Before I could express my thoughts on the irony of that name, the heavy door leading to our cell flew open. Fear struck, my eyes found Hope’s terrified ones and Eren’s, his orbs were cold as a lake in winter. I could not grasp a single emotion from his face, which lead to my panic increasing even more. The bulky one suddenly spoke up: “Hope Garentale, Ruby Heighton, and Eren Aeress.” The other three guards came charging toward us before I was able to question Eren why his family name was the same as the Cornels. The tallest one reached the corner Hope was cowering in and yanked her forcefully towards the door. Another guard grabbed my wrist and held it so tight I thought it was surely broken, before helping his buddy contain Eren, who was throwing punches at everything that moved. All three of us were dragged into the awaiting black corridor. With my last strength, I turned around and found Eren`s silhouette:” Aeress?”
