The past week has been awfully dull. I didn’t see Theo as much as I wished I had. We did text all the time, but it was not the same. I also must admit that I feel kind of bad for lying to him. On Wednesday morning, I woke up from a text from Theo, telling me that Everett and I could meet at petite évasion. I told him that I would be there, but I never showed up. At first, I was worried that Everett might be there, but then, why would he? I was pretty sure that he wouldn’t show up there either. So why disappoint Theodore? He was already disappointed in our behaviour, and I really don’t want to add to that. The vibrations of my phone got my attention quickly. Voice messages from Theo, who else feels the need to send a dozen messages in a row? “Hey sunshine, guess who will be the most handsome heir at the Hastings residence tonight? YEAH, guessed right! ME!” I just replied with a dry ‘Not the heir Rett is.’ as I listened to the next 5 messages. Theo made me promise not to be late tonight. Unlikely. But I will try. Thank God that I have four hours to get ready. That should be enough time to not break my promise. Bummer for me that I still managed not to be ready on time. I mean, how is that even possible? My parents already left 20 minutes ago, that means I must get there by myself somehow. The drive to the Hastings residence was a short one that I spent writing Theo. Well, I more likely apologised to him and asked where he was and if he wanted to have my first dance of the night. Cheeky I know, but he is a talented dancer, and I’m not bad myself. After talking to Mrs. Hastings and thanking her for the kind invite, I made my way across the room in search of my parents, while also looking for Theo. To my demise, I found my parents first, “There you are Celest, I already apologised to the Hastings about your tardiness.” The stern voice from my mother greeted me, and I swallowed the urge to snap back at her. “Good evening to you mother, father.” I kissed their cheek as if my mother wasn’t just trying to snap at me. My father gave me a curd nod and turned his attention elsewhere. “Has either one of you seen Theodore, or his family?” My mother shook her head at me and greeted her little fangirl club. Like my mother was some kind of superstar, the woman around my mother’s age hung on every word that left her mouth. I tried to follow their conversation but as soon as I saw Everett, I excused myself from them to go and talk to him. His eyes found mine the moment I took the first step in his direction. I greeted him with a brief nod and started talking. “Did you go to the Café on Wednesday?” His scoff said more than any word could. “Do you really think I was going to meet you there? That’s pathetic even for you.” I tried to shake off his cold dismissal but somehow, I couldn’t. “Did you at least tell your brother that you were going? Because I told him that I met you there.” He eyed me like I was some kid trying too hard to get his attention and that just didn’t sit right with me. “Listen here, I don’t know what your problem is with me, but could you do this for Theo? I’m not even asking you to do this for me, because we both know you don’t care about me. So please do this for him. He is trying so hard.” Everett said nothing. I don’t know if he is thinking about my words or just ignoring me. I mean, I even said please, that must mean something, right? Before Everett had the chance to form words, an unsteady voice interrupted us.
