I turned around to Lilly who gave me the most innocent but also judgy look ever. I smiled at her, “hey cutie…”

My mind was all over the place analyzing what just happened, or should I say, what almost happened.

“Do you guys need a refill or something?” she asked, and I looked at Maddie and found her looking so shy, like she just got caught doing something illegal. She was cute.

“Maddie?” I asked, and she shook her head, “umh, I don’t think so. I’ve already had something.”

“Come on, what would you like? I’m enjoying your company.

She shrugged before hugging herself again. She was still cold. I looked at Lilly, “please bring another glass and my juice.”

Lilly looked at Maddie before nodding her head. She turned around, and I got up and put my hand on her shoulder, “are you good?”

She nodded her head, “yes I am. I’ll bring your things in a few.”

I kissed her cheek and grabbed my jacket on the chair I was previously sitting on, “you are the best Lilly.”

I handed my jacket to Maddie, and she shook her head no. I sighed, “come on. Will you say no to everything?”

She took it and put it on. I smiled, “look at you being all cute in my jacket. It suits you.” She laughed, “keep saying that, and you’ll soon say bye to it.”

“Girl that will be stealing. I’ll get you arrested.” I said sitting close to her. She laughed even more, “you must know things about being a cop then since your dad was one.”

“I do, I learned from the best. And I have to say I am so glad we are drinking tea. I’d hate to see you possibly drinking and driving.”

She smiled, “you are the cutest. Have you ever broken the law or something?”

I shook my head no, “I haven’t. I was raised by rules, so everything is black and white to me. I have to know someone first, open the door for them, never be late for a meet up…. I’m always by the book. Oh, God! Maybe I’m really boring like Lilly said.”

She connected our hands and looked at me, “you’re not boring. Good girls are a turn on too. Worse when they are hot like you.”

Okay maybe she was flirting. And maybe I could break my stupid rules of knowing someone first and just kiss her. Because I wanted to do that so bad. I could try something new now. I smiled and so did she before leaning over and whispering,” where were we again?”

My mind went ‘almost kissing,’ but before I could even respond, she connected our lips making my heart melt.
