My boss pointed to the side with his head and I followed him. He looked at me, “what do you mean that’s not her? Who is she?”

I sighed being hit by relief in realization that Madison was not dead, “I don’t know her. But that’s definitely not the woman I was with. Madison is more beautiful, and she has long black hair and a dimple on her left cheek, her eyes are…”

“Okay I get it, you really like this woman…” My chief said stopping me and I gave him a weird look, how did he get that from what I just said? He sighed, and then looked behind me, “wait, is this her?”

I followed his eyes and saw the picture he was talking about. It was on the living room next to the television. A picture of Maddie standing next to the victim taken in a photo booth. They were smiling on the first picture., looking at each other and laughing on the second one, the third one they were kissing and on the last one the lady was kissing Maddie on the cheek, and she seemed so happy. So happy that it broke my heart into so many pieces. Maybe this is why she didn’t call.

How could I have gotten this so wrong? She was in a relationship? I mean the only time I decide to mess up my life a bit and have a one-night stand, I become a home wrecker? I felt shittier than I did when I thought she was dead. At this moment I kinda wished she was dead.

“I’ll give you a moment.” My chief said and that’s when I realized that he saw my face.

I shook my head and blinked a few times then went to get some latex gloves, so I could fish around. I started in the bedroom, their pictures were there and they looked so happy. The bed was made and so clean. I went to the bathroom and could stupidly smell Madison. She was here.

I got out and went back to the kitchen. I looked around once more and the place looked spotless. Whoever killed her possibly knew her enough to be let in or to let themselves in. This didn’t look good for Madison.

“Okay, I think I can put you on the case as long as you promise to give me you. You are one of the best detectives I have.”

“Thank you chief. I’ll get to the bottom of this. I noticed we have cameras in the building, I’d like to see who went in and out.” My chief smiled, “lead this detective. You’ll be with Lucas.” then he left me there.

I tapped Lucas on the shoulder, “please get me the video footage from today in the morning.” He nodded his head, “with pleasure.”

I got out of the building to breathe a bit. Lilly’s words hit me. ‘You never know who you’re inviting to your home’. How could I not see this? My phone started ringing, and it was an unknown number, I took it, “Detective Allison Mars hello.” It was quiet. I sighed, “hello there?”

‘I didn’t do it. It wasn’t me okay. I promise I didn’t do it Allison.‘ Madison said on the other side of the phone.
