Story
Cinque Terre, Italy 1992

in cinque terre’s embrace, a summer haze,
elizabeth wandered in a mystic daze.
at 49, she felt the weight of years,
mid-life crisis, a well of tears.

amidst vernazza’s coastal view,
she dwelled in moods of darkest blue.
comparing her life to its serene embrace,
a heart adrift in a foreign space.

she felt her daughter’s distant pull,
closer to her father’s soul.
mid-life’s dance, a whirlwind strife,
a mother’s worry, her inner life.

she wandered through the village streets,
comparing life, a bitter-sweet.
in veranzza’s embrace, she yearned,
for youth’s return, her heart’s concern.

at work, a passion she once possessed,
now weighed heavy, a soul’s unrest.
fulfillment waned, but she endured,
quitting not an option, strength assured.

she pondered on the creative tide,
the young talents, a rising ride.
her age, her ways, would they replace?
in the industry’s dance, a fleeting grace.

she reminisced of youth’s embrace,
when she was bold, with dreams to chase.
a tapestry of memories, rich and grand,
in the winding path where she once stood.

outside an italian restaurant grand,
with pesto’s taste, so finely planned,
she gazed upon the vast blue sea,
in solitude, her heart ran free.

she watched her daughter take to the sea,
a reflection of youth’s energy.
but as she watched her swim,
a mother’s thoughts, her eyes grew dim.

her husband’s face, a well-known sight,
in searching gaze, she found no light.
at that moment’s hold, her heart did ache,
for deep within, a choice to make.

between the vastness of sea and sky,
her soul’s reflection, a poignant cry.
a lonely journey, a soul set free,
in cinque terre’s heart, she found her plea.

captivated by thoughts of change,
of paths diverged, emotions range.
in summer’s grasp, her heart unveiled,
the need for love, no truth curtailed.

a soulful gaze, the ocean’s might,
her heart’s turmoil, an endless night.
in solitude’s hold, she faced her fears,
in cinque terre’s heart, she dried her tears.

and as the sun began to set,
a moment’s choice, a life’s vignette.
her daughter’s laughter, her husband’s smile,
in love’s embrace, she’d reconcile.

in cinque terre’s embrace, a summer haze,
elizabeth wandered in a mystic daze.
at 49, she found her soul,
mid-life’s crisis, made her whole.
