Constant dripping

Story

For a long time she floats on the water surface. Lately, she has to surface more often. She seems to be finding it harder to breathe. That’s not surprising after all that’s happened. Perhaps she has simply become more sensitive. But sunbathing does her good and she can get her thoughts in order.

At least until an Arctic tern lands on a rock next to her and lingers: “Phew, I’ll tell you, judging by your face, you’ve had an even more arduous journey behind you than I do.” Relatively impassively, the turtle looks up at her and finally nods.

“On top of that, it seems to me that every time I arrive, the food spaces have decreased again. I also hardly find any nesting sites anymore. First all these dangerous oil spills and now this. Well, at least the humans have got a grip on this black death, eh? Well. At least there was nothing I noticed for a while. Hey, why are you so quiet? Am I wallowing alone here?”, the bird whistles without point or comma.

“The humans?”, the sea dweller understands immediately, “they get ahold of stuff?”

The feathered animal laughs out loud: “Well, they just can’t get a grip on NOTHING. That’s why everything here is going to the dogs. But don’t worry, they are destroying the land as efficiently as they are destroying the oceans. If we birds had the commando, they might listen to something! There have been no comparable tyrants since the dinosaurs. And these present ones have thumbs. Unfortunately, that’s not good at all, we can’t keep up with them. They’re a bit clever when it comes to building.”

The people are to bear the blame alone?

The turtle can’t imagine that. After all, a huge beast alone killed a whale that people wanted to save. She saw and felt that with her own eyes.

“Speaking of building”, the next monologue gets started, “they are so smart, they don’t even try to scrape the ice off the poles, they just melt it. So, smart, dumb, you get to decide that for yourself, of course. Not sure why, but my parents chirp that since the poles are melting, the Gulf Stream is slowing down. Wicked, isn’t it! That’s still not all, though. My neighbors are chirping that since then, much hotter summers and crazy storms have been wreaking havoc on the countries. I can confirm that. The air pressure conditions have gone crazy.”

The armored animal has not been really attentive for a while. Its thoughts only revolve around the chaos surrounding the people, who somehow seem to be the common denominator.
