The Reflection

Luna moved her hair behind her ears. She looked at her reflection in the mirror, in front of which she stood. “Well, here goes another boring day,” Luna’s reflection groaned. That was no surprise for the girl, for she had already gotten used to her double in the mirror, who had a mind of its own. “Seriously? We go through this EVERY day,” Luna replied. “Oh, come on! Kid, you don’t know what being trapped in a different dimension and being HELPLESS means! Please, just for a day!” the being pleaded. The girl ignored its new attempt to get freed.

She had given the creature a name a long time ago. She called it “Marcy”, which meant “warlike”. Marcy was always there, as long as Luna could remember. The being was sort of her twin, who was stuck in a different dimension. And Marcy ensured Luna, that only the girl was able to free her. However, Luna never agreed to do it, especially because she didn’t know how. Marcy called that dimension the “Mirror Dimension” and appeared anywhere where one could see their reflection. She appeared in mirrors, puddles, polished spoons and metal buckets.

The girl was aware of Marcy’s favourite song, which wasn’t a lot but helped calm the creature down. Sometimes, Marcy got pretty aggressive and even though she couldn’t do any harm, she could be threatening.

“I hope the ball will be good,” Luna muttered. “Oh, right, you’re going to your first ball. In a month, I think,” her double replied and folded her arms. “Well, hope you have fun in school. Ugh, why do you go there, at all?”. “I like it there AND I’ll soon finish gymnasium!” Luna exclaimed, grabbing her handbag and leaving the house.

When she shut the door, Marcy muttered, smiling, “Oh, I will get out of here soon. And I bet she’ll come to me, herself”.

“No, wait! Stop!” Luna yelled after her bus. The bus driver ignored her and drove on. “Guess I’ll have to get to school by foot,” the girl groaned. The warm wind blew, the sun shone menacingly and not a single cloud was in sight. Luna strolled down the long road that came past her school. “Los Angeles International School, great. I got here just in time – ten minutes still left until the first lesson starts,” she told herself, as she entered the building. Students whooshed through the great hall, into their classrooms.

Luna was walking towards her locker, looking down, when she bumped into her classmate. It was no one but the boy, who, as she knew, was in love with her. “Oh, I’m so sorry, Nikolas! I wasn’t looking where I was going,” Luna explained. “Oh, um. It’s perfectly fine, Luna!” he stuttered. The girl decided to leave before he noticed that she was blushing.

“Wait!” he said, grabbing her hand. “Luna, would you go out with me on Friday?” Nik mumbled. The girl thought for a moment and answered, “Yes! We can decide where we can go after school”. The boy nodded in agreement and let go of her hand. By that time, both of them were blushing. Nikolas walked to class and Luna fetched her books out of her locker and was on her way, too.
