One day, a friend asked me what the difference between desiring and wishing was. Here is what I told her:
A wish is all about things or situations. It is something that you want to have or achieve because it makes somewhat of a logical sense or is at least very reasonable. Many times, it is connected to a stepping stone of what you or others expect from you, or a common thing people are looking up to, like having a lot of money in your bank account.
Having a desire is very different from that. It is way more intense and strong, has nothing to do with anyone or anything except with you. You are the only person that will fully understand why it is special for you. With ‘it’ meaning no thing, no person and no situation. It is all about your feelings. Your feelings when you hold something material in your hands, when you are with a person or in a special situation. It has never been the thing, person or situation itself that you desired, it has always been the feeling. The feeling you have as soon as you feel it. As soon as you think about it. As soon as you realize what it is that you desire. This priceless feeling that must be stronger than any drug.
I am sure you still can’t realize the impact a desire has. I am sure a person only really knows what a desire is, when they experience the feeling of having one. And if you have had at least one desire, no matter how much time passed by, I am sure you will never be able to forget it.
So let me guide you and let’s find out if you have ever had a desire. ‘Cause if so, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Or do you even remember it?
The little dream that once came to your head. How precious it would be to visit that place once in your lifetime. Spending time there. And before you even notice, a picture is put in your brain. You imagine yourself in this situation. No, you’re seeing yourself in this situation. You’re feeling yourself there. The little tingle in your stomach. The sunlight dancing on your arms. The lightness of your feet when you walk around the area.
And just when you come back from your little daydream, it hurts. It hurts so bad to know that this was just your imagination playing a trick on you. That you are far from the place you’ve been dreaming about. That you will never be able to get there, because it is so unconventional, so expensive, so out of your comfort zone. It is not what is expected from you, not what you are meant to do, not the right thing for you. I could go on forever, ‘cause there are multiple reasons why your daydream will forever be just a dream.
It makes no logical sense whatsoever and therefore must be buried deep down. So deep, that no one will ever know, that your brain will never dare to bury it out ever again.
This is where it ends for most. In this unbelievable sad cycle of refusing.
But it is time to break the cycle, ‘cause we all know that your desire will only get stronger and stronger and never fade.
So go out there and give it a home. Your feelings. Your daydream. Your desire. I promise, you will never regret it.
