Detention

Story

I was calmly sitting next to Lilly and Sharmi, the pizza still sitting on my lap untouched. Guilt was eating me from the inside out, while the men were staring us down. This can’t be my fault, right?

“Open the carton.” The man said that let us flee the first time. I blinked a few times. Oh my god, Luigi was in on it? Is he working for the gang? Did he put a gun in the carton as a party trick? Unsure, I slowly opened it but to my surprise, it was just a normal margherita. He took a piece and bit into it. I began to despise his sarcastic antics and jokes. He was toying with us, like a predator with his prey.

“You destroyed our flower beds,” he said dryly. I looked at the others. “I am sorry, it was my idea.” Again he glanced at me. I have probably never gotten this much attention, while my two gorgeous friends were next to me. I pushed up my glasses that had been broken for quite some months now. “Oh great! You use approximately…” he turned to the other guys; “How much Dan?” The tatted guy didn’t budge. “6 K”

“Lets say 10!” He cheerfully announced, and I looked at him with big eyes: “Or could I give you a deal?” He reached into his jumper and pulled out the gun that we knew all too well. “One of your girls lives, and you don’t have to pay a dime.” Lilly grabbed my hand and tears shot into Sharmis eyes. They could not possibly think that I would think about giving in? I jumped up. “No! I owe you. I will figure it out!” I just begged that he would give me time. “I could pay it off like in a year” Again he got closer, and again I could smell his cologne while the cold metal of his gun ws drilling into my skin. This time I stood tall and held his gaze. I had to be strong, for the sake of my friends. “Do I look like a loaner, handing out money, and you can put a standing order into your account?” his eyes twinkled, amused again.

“Please. I don’t have the whole amount right now, but you will get every cent back. Just don’t kill us!”

He contemplated for a second. There was no way he would let us run for a second time, but then why would he let us live until now?

“You owe me.”, he barked. “Your life. Her life. And her life.” It wasn’t just the money. I was in deep shit.

“I will do anything you want,” I whispered. He turned around and looked at the other guys.

“Anything?” he asked and I nodded quickly.

He walked to the front door.

“I will pick you up tomorrow.”

I pointed at myself but he shook his head. “Her.”, he pointed at Lilly. My heart started beating, while he was almost out the door. I chased after him, not really knowing what had gotten into me. “Where will you take her?” I screamed and charged at him. He quickly shoved me to the floor and I hit the hard stone face first. He turned to me and picked me up by the collar. “Take me, please,” I whispered. He didn’t say a word. The last thing I saw was his devilish smile before I passed out.
