Fear of Depersonalization

Story

I look down at myself.

I am sitting in class.

My friend asks me a question.

I can’t hear what she’s saying.

I nod.

I smile.

I hope it is the right reaction.

The teacher asks me a question.

I can’t tell what she’s saying.

But I answer.

I smile.

I hope it is the right reaction.

I hope I do not say something wrong.

I hope I do not do something wrong.

It will not happen.

Somebody talks to me.

I can’t tell who is talking.

But I nod.

I smile.

I hope it is the right reaction.

I hear a voice.

I can’t tell where it is coming from. I can’t tell who is talking.

But I react.

I smile.

I hope it is the right reaction.

And even though I can’t tell what is happening,

I must not say anything wrong.

I must not do anything wrong.

It must not happen.
