Only recently have I found how to move in this world as a woman. From a young age on, I conformed to society’s rules and standards, putting on make-up when the other girls did, dressing up or down whenever it seemed appropriate. It always felt as if I had to prove that I was worthy of being a woman. By searching for that acceptance on the outside, I never had time to question what it was that I truly wanted. In relationships, I played the part that I felt like women had to play, at the cost of crossing my own boundaries.
My first solo backpacking trip to Central America taught me how to be a woman. What others expected of me was much less important, rather was I drawn to what felt good to me. For the first time in my life, I loosened the self-imposed shackles and unleashed HER.
Who she is? Moving freely through the space she lives in, she isn’t worried anymore about taking up too much of it. Wild she is, and independent. Raw describes her nature and the nature she calls her home. Home, is an idea of a place inside her, rather than a physical one. Going back to the roots nourishes her soul and sleeping under the stars makes her feel safe. Being a woman feels like making love to the universe for her.
In this reality, she takes time to stop at a flower and smile, she cherishes the wind in her curly hair. Whenever she sees an ocean, she jumps in naked, and she takes time to marvel at the ancient wisdom, the trees surrounding her hold. Her feet caress the grass they touch and souls feel loved by her mere existence.
Being a woman means finding a way to tame a small piece of the power inside her. This power, which she never knew she held, only started awaking after living true to herself. Whether others see it or not, she knows where to find it. Compassion and love for her environment fill her heart and the light she carries outside makes sure to reach everyone who needs it.
And then there is our greatest gift. Given many names, the intuition of a woman who has tapped into its greatness can simply not be shaken. This feeling of knowing before it is logically possible, teaches her everything about the world that she needs to know. Protecting her while sharing its secrets. A woman will only rise up to her true power when she accepts the universal part within.
Recognizing how Mother Earth moves in cycles, she sees a reflection of herself in nature’s water. Being erratic in her movement, following impulses, rather than routines and resting when it is time to, have formed her feminine. Perhaps that feminine part has rather shaped her.
Being a woman means recognizing the masculine and the feminine she holds inside herself. Nourishing both parts equally and giving them space to express themselves grounds her. Each of us has to find out for herself what that means for her personally and the seeds we planted will start sprouting.
As a woman, you wear a crown. Don’t ever forget that.
