Helpless

Story

She had always hated the word. Helpless. Most of the time, people were just exaggerating when they claimed to be helpless. There was always something one could do and there was usually help to be found as well if only one knew where to look for it. This time she knew what helplessness actually felt like.

She looked around to find everything around her was dark. Something cold was still holding on to her hand. She tore free. A shiver ran down her spine as she spun around to see nothing. Blackness devoured everything. She was no longer in her dirty bathroom, that much was clear. What had this wicked creature done to her?

In spite of the darkness, she kept turning around trying to figure out where she was and if something was about to eat her alive within the next few seconds.

“What is it doing?” a voice that sounded like that of the wrinkly creature – the wicked thing – said.

“She. For the last time: it’s a she. And she is confused. You shouldn’t have dragged her here. They only come here when they want to.” Someone or something else said. “What are we supposed to do with her now? She doesn’t belong here”

“But her pet. We can’t force her back without her pet”

Something grunted. “Forget about the pet, we have to take care of her now”

“Where am I,” she asked, hoping it wouldn’t be the answer she was expecting.

“You are at the other end of the galaxy. Someone brought you here to find your pet”

She was shaking all over. This might be a trap. What did they want from her? Even though she was convinced there was almost always help to be found somewhere, she didn’t trust these two one bit. If they did mean what they said, then this might be her only chance to get her poor cat back home. “You will help me?” Her eyes were slowly adjusting to the dark. At least she could see the two creatures’ silhouettes now. They would no longer be able to attack her without her noticing it – not from the front that was.

“Of course, I will. I know how awful it is to lose a pet. Nobody should go through that,” the wrinkly one said.

She wasn’t sure if there was any truth in these words or if there was any tell to whether or not it might be lying. She would have to buy it or waste her chance. Something different came to her mind. “How will my cat and I get back?”

The two creatures looked at each other. The less wrinkly one looked rather angry “This is the only flaw in that plan I’m afraid to say. The portal only opens from the other side”
