You taught me how to swim,
moving limb by limb.
At first i was afraid
the water might swallow me.
But then we played,
and i learned to love the sea.
I loved the pool as well
if you couldn’t tell.
It was hard to get me back out,
about that i have no doubt.
Soon i swam like a mermaid,
while you just surveyed.
Sometimes we swam together,
and that was even better.
I collected shells on our walks,
while we held our talks.
Father and daughter
next to the water.
You taught me how to swim,
moving limb by limb.
You taught me so much more,
you taught me how to soar.
How to spread my wings and fly,
fly high.
