Recently, I went to a store in Vienna, looking for some orange clothes to wear, in order to support the campaign “Orange The World – 16 Days Against Violence against Women”. Ironically, I didn’t find anything completely orange at first, except for a flashy orange book with pink letters titled “The Little Book of Cock”. I started to laugh and couldn’t believe it. Little Book of Cock?! Gonna buy it for my boyfriend as a Christmas gift!, I thought jokingly. And then, I actually did. (Luckily I also found an orange scarf with sequins right after. Mission complete!)
When I showed him the book and he really liked it, I was somewhat put off by the fact that I had just bought a humorous little book about cocks and had never seen something the like about the female reproductive organ. Where is the equivalent book about pussies / yonis / vaginas / our precious body part? It is so fascinating that I don’t know any really funny jokes about it that aren’t dirty or condescending or even abusive… I have never read a book listing fun facts about it or terms for it… where is that book??
One second later I realised: Oh. Perhaps I could create it. At least as a joke.
So, let’s begin. I’m going to create THAT book. The Little Book of Yonis. Or Pussies. Or… ? We’ll see.
Name it nicely.
How many different wonderful words come to your mind when you think about the female reproductive organ? And what I mean are beautiful words. Lustful words. Joyful words.
In the German language there are very few that I like. Most of them are either mainly scientific (vulva, vagina, uterus) – or slang words with a rather condescending connotation. Words like “Fotze”, “Muschi”, “Scheide” echo through my mind and I don’t like the sound of them one bit.
For me, it’s easier to find pleasing terms in other languages, or to go and create new, more gentle and feminine words myself.
I am a fan of the term “yoni” of course. It comes from the Sanskrit language, carries a softer vibe and describes the female reproductive organ in its wholeness as a divine temple of creation and fertility. We LOVE that, don’t we? <3 Because that’s what it is, or at least, should be seen as. I am mostly going to adopt this name for it in the book.
My personal favourite expressions for the YONI, or different parts of it, like the CLITORIS, are:
butterfly wings * heavenly or pearly gates * roses in-between thighs * angel wings * pearl of lust * soft flower * temple of divinity * pussy * sanctuary * bliss fountain * ananda berry * bliss portal * womb * clit * book of life * venus lips * concha * deep ocean * temple of creation *…and so many more that us WOMEN could create!
