Part 2

The room starts blurring intensely and moments later I am standing on a beach. The air is warm and salty, but the sky is darkened by thick grey clouds. I know exactly where I am. This is the place where I last saw my sister. I can see her right now. Walking in the wet sand in front of me, leaving small footprints behind her. Holding her teddy bear in one hand. Giggling. Just as I remember her. I can see my parents, too. They are standing a little bit further from the beach. Lost in an argument.

They do not pay much attention to my sister and me. They do not tell my sister to stay away from the water. They do not explain how dangerous high tides can be. I do, but she does not listen to me. I tell her it is not the right time to look for shells in the sand. I tell her to stop. The waves are getting bigger and stronger. I scream for help. I scream for my parents. Wait!

But by the time they reach the edge of the water, she is gone.

My sister is gone.

Her fingers are tightly clutched around the steering wheel while she is driving home from the office. It is quite difficult to see; the windscreen is foggy, and the snowfall is getting heavier with every minute. Though she promised her fiancé not to work so late on a holiday, by the time she stepped out of the building about ten minutes ago, it was already dark outside. She tries to make a quick call, without taking her eyes off the wet road, but his fiancé’s phone seems to be switched off. His battery must have died again, so she decides to leave a text message instead. The road looks deserted, and she only needs to type three words. It will only take a moment. She is now holding her phone in one hand while steering with the other. She looks up at the road again. Still deserted. The bridge is getting nearer, but she only needs to type three words. It will only take a moment.

But before she could send her message, something else happens.

And it only takes one moment.

The front wheels slip on the snowy asphalt. The car starts swerving out of her control until it skids through the barrier of the narrow bridge. The car is falling. She is falling. Into the icy water. Sinking. And after a few seconds, she sees and feels nothing…
