Poetry: The Trauma Serenade.

Michi Braun

Story

when you finally discover

that what you always thought was a rose garden

was actually a field of thistles

a childhood to enjoy the beauty

a lifelong to get rid of the thorns

stuck in your heart

sometimes it’s a battlefield

sometimes it’s a graveyard

but if you want to bloom

you have to dig deep

find those broken bones and broken hearts

of your ancestors

cause all the pain of all the lifes before you

still lives on, unseen

all my pretty dresses

were in fact some kind of armour

a soft shell covering a wall of bricks

a barrier to protect a treasure

and all the light

was just to distract you

from the darkness

hiding within me

there’s no one to blame

neither your lovers nor your family

you’re the only one capable of conquering your demons

so take the shovel and the weapon

start digging and fighting

but remember

to move to battle

solely with the sword of love

cause that’s the only blade

capable of healing wounds

instead of cutting through threads
