Story
Sandfell

My dad had a grand ship. As a child, you are innocent, ignorant and anxious. I was a shy boy back then. I barely remember the day the pirates took over Sandfell. I watched through the window as they arrived at the port. I awakened because of the alarming horn, one of the Vikings must have blown to warn us and make the village get ready for the battle ahead. My dad told my mother to wait in the house with my brother and me until the fight was over. Mum said that we should not watch and try to get some sleep, but brother and I watched through the window. We had to learn. One day we wanted to be like father. A strong Viking to protect the village and make the gods proud.

The fight was not what Clove and I expected. With our young years we saw a lot of blood, a lot of brutality. It was awful. I wanted to climb up the ladder to our room to hide under the warm blanked, but I couln´t move. My brother seemed so brave and furious at this moment. But me? I was a fearful useless boy. Not worth a Viking. The battle moved forward, and my mother hired all the women and children together in the forest above our village. We had to go, or otherwise we would have died that night. Some men came back in the morning dawn, some were lost forever. Dad never came back. Grandpa was lost.

We build up a new village a lot of beaches and coves away. My brother trained sailing while I walked around and gathered some stuff the men who returned brought with them. One sabre got my attention and I kept it home. I was too young to set sail, so I had to stay at home with the other children my age. My brothers friends laughed at me, because I often tried to show them that I was ready to come with them on a journey, but I always stumbled over my own feet or couldn’t move an axe because of it’s heaviness. Every time my brother was back with his ship, he and his friends laughed, had fun, sat around all day and did nothing. That was unfair to me who had to work hard building new houses and the port. I also had to help mum with some household things. I liked helping her, but not when my brother was around. Our connection had changed since we had to move here to New Sandfell. Nightmares crept into my sleep every night. Wether from my brother and his friends laughing at me or the pirates taking over our new village. Sometimes with losing my loving mum. There were millions of things I wish I could change. But it all was just a dream back then.

But today is the day I take revenge. I am now a strong Viking and with me the youngsters of my age. Women and men who can fight back. The pirate’s village will be taken again by us. I created a brilliant plan, some of us will come through the forest, while me and some of the crewmembers attack from the port. Thanks to my ship, we will arrive in just three day. We are the children of the warriors that build this town. We are strong and we take the town back. We will come with weapons. And me personally, I got the sabre. With it, I will fight against their captain, to kill him with one of his own pirate weapons. What a shame for him, but for me, it would be a victory. The gods will be proud and also my father if he watches me from Valhalla.
