John stared at the piece of paper in his hands.
There was an address scribbled underneath the words “Go home!”, but he could hardly read it.
Something, something “H-Street” and the number 9.
Carefully he pulled out the driver’s license again and looked at the listed home address.
No, that couldn’t be correct. The listed address was on 15 Kennedy Boulevard. There was no “H” anywhere in that name. And the nine was also conspicuously missing.
John, or whatever his name was, sighed a deep long sigh and put the license back in his pocket.
Was he the kind of man who would fake a license? But for what reason?
He wasn’t even sure why he knew it was a fake. But he knew. Somehow he felt it in the back of his mind.
Collecting his thoughts for a moment, he stood in silence, then he started walking with purpose. Whatever the address was, chances were that it was close by.
If he had a condition that made him forget everything about his life so easily, it would make sense that he had just wandered off a few minutes from his home.
The letter to himself made total sense that way. Someone with a debilitating illness like that would need to remind themselves of the truth from time to time. He just wished that his old self would have thought of buying a laminator.
Apparently the bench was situated in a park. Lush greenery surrounded “John” and if he hadn’t been in such a predicament, he would have appreciated the sight of the glistening raindrops on the foliage.
Making his way to one corner of the park, he made out a street sign. “Candy Drive” and… “Henry Street”? Henry Street! That could be it!
Hastily he jogged towards the street and looked around.
The street wasn’t long, about thirty houses or so. Brilliant! That would make his life way easier. Just three houses to check.
“John” decided to go in order. First 9, then 19 and the 29 at the end.
Annoyingly the key ring had five different keys on it, so he had to test them out for quite a while.
He had no luck with the first or second door. But the third door finally opened with the fourth key.
