Story

When the queens of a kingdom far away bore a child, they were overjoyed. To celebrate, they threw a great feast. They invited not only their closest friends and family but also thirteen wise women.
Though, as fate had it, one wasn’t provided a golden plate to eat from. Angered by the disrespect, she put a curse on the newborn Aurora to die upon her eighteenth birthday. The whole queendom cried in horror, as the other women had already blessed the child with virtue, beauty, riches, and more.
The last one stepped forward now, though she was not able to reverse the curse she could lessen it at least, “The princess shall not die, but instead sleep for a hundred years once her eighteenth birthday has passed.”
And so it happened. Even though her mothers tried everything, they could not help her, they could not prevent Aurora’s fate.
With time, the castle sunk into grief and disrepair. Roses climbed up the walls to turn it into a fortress.
Ninety-eight years went by, and everyone who had known about the sleeping princess had passed away. She lay in her tower – forgotten until a young couple stumbled upon the castle. They barely had anything, but they were a passionate pair and, seeing the potential in the place, they decided to make it their home.
They cut the rose hedges, cleaned the dust off the old furniture, and painted the walls. After two years of hard work, the castle shone anew. There was only one tower left. When they wandered up the stairs, they spotted the sleeping beauty.
They decided to care for her. They combed her hair and painted her nails, sat by her bed and told her stories, all in the hopes that one day she would wake up. What they did not know was that Aurora could hear them all this time. Indeed, the sleeping princess had almost gone insane with the endless quiet. But she had felt the castle come to life again. Every moment the couple stayed by her side, she sensed a new part of her awakening.
Then one day, they were celebrating the wife’s nineteenth birthday, the time had finally come. When Aurora opened her eyes, she spotted the beautiful couple, who hugged her tightly. They sat together, eating cake and laughing. The princess told them about her curse, and the spouses offered her a home alongside them.
Together, they went to the nearby villages, reintroducing the heir to the throne. They handed out bouquets of roses, which they cut from the walls, talked to the people, and listened to their wishes. Aurora had never felt this close to anyone but her two companions.
Soon enough, the people gathered in the castle to witness a grand celebration. For the first time, the country had three monarchs watching over it for the day before the throuple had gotten married and was now crowned Queen, Queen, and King.
