Her lips parted again, and he could feel the vibrations of her voice in her throat.
“You cannot stop my punishment from continuing, my dear. It shall stain my soul as the sins stained my lord.”
He froze, and his hands dropped with a sigh. She was so sickly obsessed with her lord’s view of her that she chose to hurt herself rather than have anyone else hurt.
“But is he worth your vision, my dove? Is he really a good lord if he leaves you in pain for his signature emotion, Love?”
His words were valid in his mind, guessing from past words she might struggle to agree. But little did he know, she had made up her mind about her heaven and lord. She swallowed harshly and her posture straightens once again, preparing her physical appearance for what is to leave her vocal cords.
“They will take my wings also. Said the next descent shall be my last. And so it will be. No step for you, I wouldn’t take and if it meant me to never return to heaven, I shall stay with you, my safe haven.”
Kaelith froze.
For once in his eternal life he was speechless. He couldn’t form a single coherent thought, let alone speak.
They’ll take her wings?
They’ll take her wings – meaning exile. She will be a fallen angel. A demon. Just like him.
His head twisted and groaned with the confused tornado of thoughts that had started to build up in his head. She’ll be with him for eternity. She is giving up her place of birth solely for him.
Finally, Kaelith growled, sounding uncharacteristically desperate, more to himself than her.
“No. No, no, no.”
Sliding up from his wrists, her hands blindly found their way to his head, perfectly navigating over his body from the memories her eyes had imprinted into her mind. Once she had located his face, she leaned forward, her lips finding his forehead just as securely as her hands found his cheeks.
There was not one way in her mind where she could’ve been happy in heaven without him. So she was certain she would fall.
“Will you be here to catch me when I fall?”
Kalith’s heart nearly stopped fully when her words reached his ears. How can she be so soft, even when bleeding and hurting? Even when she’s cast from heaven, punished for a sin they both committed?
He closed his eyes, inhaling her scent and relishing the feeling of her lips so close to him. He wanted to burn it, detail by detail, into his memory.
