Sunset at the Beach

Story

As soon as the car stops, she rips open the door and jumps onto the street.

“Come on!” Her melodic voice carries through the air as she picks up speed, her long white dress flowing behind her. As she looks out over the sea, the sky painted with different colours, reds and oranges and purples, she forgets about her worries.

She forgets about bills that need to be paid, about decisions she needs to make, about people she needs to call. For the first time in months, she feels calm, at ease, as if her heart is made out of feathers.

Stone turns to sand and she takes off her shoes, tossing them behind her. She spins, once, twice, completely lost in her own world.

She has longed for this for such a long time. When she was sitting in her house in the city, her thoughts often drifted to this place and her heart ached to be there again. But things always got in the way. The days and weeks passed by so quickly and were always filled with appointments and such, and she thought it would be selfish to cancel them to come here, but she never stopped dreaming of seeing this place again. And now that she is here, it is just as magical as she remembers.

When she reaches the place where sand transitions to water, she slows down and then comes to a halt. She laughs softly as the waves lick her toes. “Hello, old friend. I’ve missed you.” Slowly, she bends down to scoop up a handful of water. With a shout of pure happiness she throws the water into the air.

As the droplets hit her skin, she closes her eyes. With every drop she feels her energy replenishing and she suddenly has the urge to take off running. Down the beach alongside the ocean, run as fast as she can and as far as she can. But she knows that she doesn’t have to do that now.

She has all of the time in the world, so she doesn’t need to rush. She can just stay here and enjoy this place for as long as she wants to.

She walks into the ocean, not caring that her dress gets wet. Another step, and another step, until she is completely surrounded by water. And there, in the arms of her one true love, she can finally breathe easily.
