Story

“Jasper, he stood at the bloody edge!”, Polaris yells in disbelieve, while him and Jasper still stand in the same room in which they just witnessed, how Castor almost jumped to his death. At least that’s how it looked.

“Maybe it wasn’t what it looked like, Polaris.”, Jasper tried to convince his friend, not believing a word he said himself.

“What else did it look like? He certainly wasn’t trying to get a better look at the grounds of Hamting!”, the black haired one started in a loud and urgent voice, hoping the words would push away the pictures replaying in his head of his brother, who stood at the edge of a window, just about to jump.

“I have no idea, Polaris. Take a couple breaths, he’s safe right now. Let’s head to class, maybe we haven’t missed too much yet.”, Jasper suggests, knowing that this is their only option right now. It’s too late to run after Castor, he got too far to catch up.

“I’m worried about him. I always was. I never wanted to leave, Jasper, I really didn’t.”, Polaris starts rambling in a shaky voice. “I had to go. They would’ve killed me if I didn’t, but now I’ve lost Cas. I’ve lost him Jasper. I’ve lost my brother…”, he gets quieter with each word and his voice breaks, until there are more sobs coming out of his moth than there are words.
James sees when he has to help Polaris, they’ve spent a little over a year together now, seeing each other every day. He moves closer to his friend and embraces him, as always hoping it’ll distract Polaris. And as always, it works, slowly, but it does. It only takes a minute for Polaris to completely fall into Jasper’s arms and let all of his emotions out. He’s calmer now, trying to push away his thoughts and gather himself to be his usual self again. In moments like these, Polaris is glad to have Jasper. He sometimes wonders where he’d be without Jasper, but deep down he knows, that without his friend he’d be nowhere, if not dead. Jasper has given him the strength to become who he is right now. All the confidence and kindness have been brought to him by Jasper. Without him there would’ve been no one to actually take care of him properly, he would’ve been at the same point Castor was just earlier. That’s why he feels even worse about Castor, he was at the same point as him, only a few months ago. Polaris wanted to die himself, because he deserved to, that’s what he thought. Those thoughts have eaten him up for years. The way his parents treated him got worse day by day. They didn’t accept their son. “Everything in this family is your fault.”, that’s what they’d tell him each and every day, things only got worse, once he found out that he’s an anima and not a caput. An anima is a wizard whose magic comes from his heart, while a caput uses his head. Caput wizards are stronger than anima, since their magic doesn’t depend on their emotions. The Blackwell family is known to be a caput family, so being an anima meant more torment. That’s when he has lost it. The day Polaris has run away, was the day he was meant to die, but instead is legs took him to Jasper’s front door. Never was Polaris more surprised than when Jasper opened the door and didn’t ask questions. He didn’t need to know anything, neither did his parents. They showed him love and let him stay for as long as he needed. Jasper was the one who saved him.
