Story

I am in my room reading a book when I hear a noise coming from the kitchen. This is the third time this evening that my cat has dropped something, he is always making a mess in the whole house, even when he is sleeping next to me. At the moment he is here, lying on my bed, and yet he keeps making noise in the kitchen, I don’t know what else to do.

Ever since I was a child, this cat has been making a mess and tormenting everyone in my house. At that time, he was not even born yet, I adopted him only three years ago. How could a cat that didn’t live with me and wasn’t even born manage to annoy my parents?

When I was 5 years old, my parents lost their jobs, and since they didn’t have any money, we went to live in my grandmother’s old house. As soon as we moved into this house, this damned cat started to make our lives, or better, my parents’ lives, hell, because I never heard it making noise.

My parents always said that during the night, things in the kitchen started to break, and that something kept hitting the wall. At that time I didn’t hear it, but since they died I started to hear it.

I wasn’t the only one who didn’t hear it, my parents told several people about these noises, but no one ever heard anything. Only them. A few years passed, and they started to go crazy, they couldn’t stand the noise anymore. They searched everywhere for the cause of the sounds, but never found it.

As I grew up, I saw my parents fighting more and more, they were very stressed because of debts, and the noise made everything worse, since they couldn’t sleep properly.

Everything got worse and worse, until one day I came home and my father had hanged himself. Mom and I were desperate, not knowing what to do. My mother was completely lost and locked herself in her room for days. I would go into her room to bring her food and try to convince her to get up, but she refused.

A few days later, I came home from school and my mother had also committed suicide. I was lost. For days, I didn’t want to leave the house, and I thought of doing the same as my parents and putting an end to my suffering, but I didn’t have the courage.

The next day, a social worker came and took me to an orphanage, where I lived until I turned 18. As soon as I turned 18, I moved back into my grandmother’s house. That’s when the noises started, everything that my parents said they heard when I was a child, now I heard too.

I decided not to let it affect me like it did them. I have a job, and soon I will be able to move out of this house forever, but until that happens, I have adopted a cat, and now it is to blame for all the noises.
