Someone asked me what I think love is,
And I said that there is no one definition I could give.
Because it takes a million shapes at once,
And changes on every single day I live.
Because I will never love a lover the way I do a friend,
And I love some people from way up close,
While I love others despite the little time we spend.
I love my sister over all the distance in between,
And yet I know she’ll always be there,
Even if it’s only on a screen.
Because our love reaches way deeper than the blood we share.
And I love my parents even if they don’t quite know how to treat me right,
Because I know they still want the best for me,
Even if we hurt and fight.
And I know that they will stick around, no matter how hard we disagree.
And my friends I love in a million different ways,
Because we all share a different kind of connection,
And have our own memories and little affection displays.
Because we all go in our very own direction,
But somehow our ways never part.
Because we are along for any ride,
Even if we weren’t all here from the start.
We’ll be sure to stick to each other’s side.
And the love I have for romance
Is something else entirely again now.
It is a love that doesn’t always get a chance,
But that will always grow my heart bigger than I thought it would allow.
So love just is a tricky thing, you know?
Because it comes in so many different ways.
But one thing that I’m sure of is that it will always grow,
And that even when it has no place to go, the love within you always stays.
