The dichotomy of being a woman

Story

Why is it that men always tell women that they are overreacting?

Whatever happens, it wasn’t that bad.

They didn’t mean it like that.

Your perception is off.

You’re exaggerating.

You don’t remember it right.

Why would you do that?

Making me doubt my perception. Because you claim I’m too emotional?

Don’t dampen the mood, play your role.

Be friendly, be pleasant, emotions in control.

Don’t relish too much, stay composed in your stance.

Be a good daughter, sister, and mother, don’t let them see your rage.

A paradox, smile and nod, in life’s intricate dance.

“Don’t do this, don’t do that,” their voices proclaim.

Questioning our senses, negating our might.

Yet I know what I sensed, saw, and felt; it’s not a game.

Raising my voice, I assert, seeking justice and light.

Don’t tell me I’m exaggerating. You’re making me feel crazy when you’re the crazy one.

You’re the one denying what’s clearly in sight.

I stand my ground, strong amidst life’s swirling ocean.

Refusing to waver, to back down from the fight.
