Chapter 1: Mason
I left the building and crossed the busy road while trying not to get hit by a car. It was quarter past five and given the fact that the sun was brightly shining a few hours ago and people were almost as happy as they were during the warm months in summer, the weather had now changed dramatically. People were running around trying to find a dry spot to wait at until the heavy rain had stopped, and the wet roads were reflecting the colorful traffic lights. I ran to my car and sat inside as quickly as I possibly could. The heavy rain was pouring on the roof and windows and made everything sound way worse than it actually was. I smiled. There was nothing that I adored more than bad weather. I loved to come home during cold and wet days and just slip into comfy clothes and then watch a good old scary movie. I took a deep breath and started driving home.
When I arrived in the driveway my phone made a quiet beep and I saw that I got a message from my boss.
‘Hi Lily! Just checking to see if you could interview someone tomorrow? I know it’s usually not your job since you do politics, but Tyler from Entertainment is sick and Monica is out, so we have no one else to cover and since I saw in the calendar that you’re free during this time I was wondering if you could cover? Regards, James.’
I smiled. ‘Sure that’s ok! Have a nice afternoon and send me the details!’ I answered and walked inside my house.
After a nice homemade meal and a good tv show I fell asleep.
I woke up to the pouring rain that was loudly clashing against my window and to a text from James on the details of when and where to give the Interview, what questions to ask and more.
I quickly got dressed and did some research on the guy that I was about to interview. He was an upcoming artist around my age and to my relief seemed to be pretty down to earth.
I had breakfast, got dressed and made my way to the hotel where the interview was happening, but I was greeted by tons of screaming girls outside the Hotel.
I slowly made my way to the entrance and showed the security guy my press pass. He waved me in, and I made my way to the 10th floor. When I arrived upstairs people were running around, giving each other information and advice on how to behave and everything seemed hectic and chaotic in every way possible.
Johnny who I had met a couple of times before from entertainment came over to me and shook my hand. ‘Glad that you’re here! He’s here any second take your seat and just be yourself and stick to the questions.’ I nodded and took a seat while Johnny checked my microphone. Suddenly everyone went silent and turned their heads to the door. And that was when he walked in. He was a little taller than me, had a slim figure and dark hair. His blue eyes scanned the whole room and a smile hushed over his face before he made his way over to me.
‘Hi. I’m Mason. Nice to meet you, I hope your questions aren’t as boring and lame like those of everyone else who interviewed me today.’
‘I doubt it. I’m terribly sorry if this goes wrong, this usually is not my job. I’m filling in for a colleague. What boring questions are you usually asked?’ He smiled.
‘Every boring little detail about how I deal with fame and all. What am I supposed to tell them? I party and unfortunately do drugs like my dad did?’ He smiled at me and took a look at my notes. ‘It’s just the same boring questions. Change it up a little.’ I smiled. ‘Alright. Why are you like your dad, Mason?’ I looked into his blue eyes, and he gave me an intense stare. ‘I’m not trying to be. He is everything that I am trying not to be, but people throw drugs and alcohol at me wherever I go. No chance of escaping from this hell. I just want the recognition and the respect, not the fame and no privacy. All I ever wanted was to make my mother proud. She passed away when I was little.’ his blue eyes looked into mine again, and it almost felt like I could see a small wave of hurt running across his face.
‘Cut some of the parts out. I sound like a Weenie.’ I laughed and went on to the next question. The interview went well, but I felt like he kept staring at me in an intense way.
