Story

Death like any other concept is far more than just a concept. Death is a deity, an incarnation, a personification and an eternal being. Once in a while those eternal beings take on mortal forms and live a mortal lifetime in them.

So came the time for Death to take a mortal form, once again. But this time wouldn’t be like the other times, Fate and Love had foretold. Their words held true. Very soon, by immortal standards, Death found their true Soulmate.

Death had chosen a female form this time around as if knowing that their soulmate would be a beautiful lady. Together they build their lives in a town near one of the great forests. They enjoyed the life they had, but everything ends, and so did their happy days. Death had to leave for war. Even in their mortal form they needed to do their duty. Heavy-hearted they left.

In the war their mortal form was killed. Without a mortal form Death was forbidden by ancient laws to interfere in the mortal realms.

Their Soulmate sent letter after letter. Death read each, but they were unable to send a single one in return. They saw how their Mate fell into a deep depression. Each day that passed brought them closer to their realm.

The day they met again was the day Death finally felt complete. They will be this way now and till the end of time.

Sometimes Death would take out the letters and read them again. … I can’t help but notice the empty spot you left. The first few days after you left weren’t that bad. I did everything as always. I made breakfast. Silly me also cooked your part, but that’s only because I’m so used to you being here with me every day.

After the first few days I got better, I think so at least. I mean, I haven’t stopped missing you, how could I when you are my world, my soul, the very reason to stand up every morning. No, I mean that I got better at ignoring the feeling of falling apart, the feeling of my soul breaking.
