Our ancestors were engaged almost throughout the day in securing food and eating to fulfill their hunger and survive in the weather conditions and challenges given as per the seasonal changes. Of course, they not just concentrated only on food and hunger, but also showed proper interest and care about their reproductive life because of the challenges they faced from the weather conditions on those days. They were not getting in those days any type of junk or fast food, so they were hunting for food and searching for fruits and vegetables in the jungle till they understood the natural cycle, the seasons, and the power of the earth, water, and the sun. Once they understood all the basics, then they started cultivating what they could instead of migrating from place to place in search of food. There was a transformation in their lifestyle after gaining the wisdom to produce food in one place. Soon they understood team teamwork meant more than hunting. Living in one place means more challenges in daily life, working in bigger groups, and living together as a society. The great advantage of living as a society is that they can organize and share tasks to be done according to ability and talent, to survive against the challenges of weather conditions, animal attacks, and also sometimes from dominating people’s groups.
All the challenges they faced certainly needed a lot of time and energy to earn healthy food and, at the same time, the energy spent on physical and mental activities was well-balanced, and this balance led to the evolution of the population today. Today in the industrial and information technologic era, we must not spend so much physical energy to lead a good life and to buy our food from the supermarkets, but the quality of mental energy needed is certainly raised to the maximum extent because of the challenges in managing the complexity and the knowledge we gather through both our experiments and experience from the past. When we talk about the former situation in many countries, they are still using manual labor to produce food for us all and the situation is getting better, hopefully day by day. At every stage till today, there is a transformation in our mindset, actions, and energy spent on the aim of where we are today. To fulfill the future agenda, we need to eat ecological food but not consume it in high quantities. Our physical and mental balance, our transformation capacity, and the mental power needed to actively participate in future transformation demand more healthy food as well as healthy food habits.
I want to ask at this point, do you know the difference between eating and consuming food? If YES, then you are ready to know about the future challenges of food and the distribution of food. If your answer is NO, then you need to get into the basics and understand as early as possible to cope with fellow beings’ food needs in the world. People in our present society, irrespective of their age and gender, should care about the future needs of all living beings. There is also a challenge in front of us to educate people about food, food habits, the importance of good food, and the importance of sharing food available. Global challenges and local challenges both demand our active awareness and active participation to avoid poverty and set ethical standards for the distribution of food equally to fulfill all the living beings on the earth.
