Dear Reader,
do you know what a spinster is? For those of you who don’t, it is an old term to describe a woman who is considered “too old” and unmarried. A spinster is between the ages of 23–26 years old. A spinster goes against the norms of society, or so they say. The spinster grows tired of living the way society tells her and decides one day that she wants to make a society of her own. The spinster will usually surround herself with a band of misfits, so she knows that no matter how bad things get she will always have someone to lean on. Society looks down on her, but she doesn’t care what they have to say about her.
“One foot in the grave”, that is what they say.
Too old to be a spring chick, born in May.
A misfit with not one scarlet letter
The days won’t get better.
I was born to take the title of “spinster”.
Not married to an old mister.
That is when I discovered that I was not alone.
I was not an old crone.
“I hereby pledge myself as a member of the secret society of spinsters.”
And just like that, I became a trickster.
If I wasn’t a bad influence before, I was now.
They expected me to be silent, so I took a vow.
I screamed so loudly, it felt good.
To finally be heard and understood.
I made them afraid, I made them tremble.
Far from fragile and gentle.
They labelled me a “spinster”, they tore me down.
Now I walk with my head held high around town.
