Story

The Warrior in Me

She has been awake for a long time, her voice loud, fighting her way past the voices of my parents and sister. I increasingly focus on the voice of my warrior, which is stronger than anyone I have ever met, especially those from whom I have learnt a lot. The more it hurts, the more I have changed. My warrior proudly carries her scars.

And not in vain have we chosen the phrase ‘May we meet again’ as an eternal mark on our bodies. We will meet again, and I will come back stronger. Let us meet again quietly when I have grown. ‘Alive’ in Braille, the next eternal mark on my wrist – I am still alive. As long as I breathe, my warrior is with me, plunging into every battle with me.

We will fight together, win and lose, and then we can mourn together for what we have lost.

We have changed so many times, been changed, shed so many layers from which we were allowed to grow out, all together – and now we cry together for the person we once were, and at the same time, we celebrate the new person we have become.

Because we always emerge stronger. Even when we crouch and sob on the floor, not knowing where up and down is any more.

The warrior always wisely says: ‘This shall pass’ – and she is always right. The feeling disappears, and we rise stronger.

The beautiful thing is, if you’re at the bottom, you can only go up. Too often, we have asked ourselves, why us, why, us again? Because we are strong enough and still have room to grow. We are still allowed to learn from life.

We find meaning in every painful past because it has made us the person we are today. Besides, we always remain brave. We want to live, not just survive. We trust new people and maintain our open nature.

From now on, we will walk the path of life together, because together we are stronger and can learn a lot from each other. Till death will tear us apart. Our Forever.
