Story

The bond between Hazelle and Marshall appears to be thriving, yet Hazelle finds herself grappling with newfound emotions she never knew existed. Initially, the headaches were minimal, but now both the chest pain and headaches have intensified. Hazelle has experienced episodes of vomiting blood, accompanied by bouts of nausea and mental confusion. Over the past two days, her condition has deteriorated further, rendering her unsteady on her feet and struggling to maintain her balance. Although she is uncertain of the cause, Hazelle realizes that she has become too complacent. It is imperative that she prioritizes her health and releases her thoughts of Law, as he appears to be recovering from their last conversation. Each day, she feels herself fading, burdened by an invisible weight on her shoulders. It is as if her heart is ensnared by heavy chains, tugging at it relentlessly, threatening to tear it from its vessels. This overwhelming sensation impedes her ability to eat properly, and her visit to the hospital only raises more questions.

Contrary to expectations, the doctors assert that her condition should have improved following her encounter with Marshall. Yet, Hazelle struggles to observe any positive changes within herself. Could it be that the thoughts she previously entertained must now be reconsidered? Is Marshall truly not her soul mate?

“Dismiss those thoughts,” she scolds herself angrily, recoiling.

“What’s the matter?” Marshall inquires, seated across from her in her home, sipping on a cup of coffee before heading to work.

“Nothing, just thinking aloud.”

“Haze.”

“Yes?”

Marshall clenches his teeth before proceeding cautiously.

“Are you truly feeling well?” he asks.

“I’m fine, honestly.”

“Enough with the same response. Do you even realize how you appear right now?” Marshall’s voice rises in frustration.

“What’s gotten into you? I’m telling you, I’m fine. It’s just a headache.”

Over the past two weeks, their relationship has taken a downturn, Hazelle concedes, despite her attempts to convince herself otherwise. The frequency of their conversations has waned, and their interactions have dwindled. They both retreat into their shells, uttering mere words in passing when they meet. Hazelle strives to salvage their connection, but her efforts prove futile. One day she rejects Marshall, and the next day he withdraws from her. They are unable to forge a deeper connection, feeling as though they are transgressing some unspoken boundary whenever they try.
