To My Younger Self

Story

Dear younger me.

You’re probably sitting in front of a messy desk in the middle of the night not feeling good enough for anything you want to do, full of unlived dreams and unachieved goals.
Believe me, I know. I remember. Sometimes I wish I could talk to you and tell you everything that’s happening in my life. Our life.
Take this letter as a promise for upcoming days.
I can still see your joy and your hope in my eyes anytime I see my reflection. It feels like you’re saying hello, reminding me of our wishes and dreams.
I know you’re doubting yourself every single day. I know you don’t feel beautiful, and I know you’re wondering if you’ll ever be enough.
Hang in there, baby girl. We made it. You just have to wait for it. It’s all there for you. The world is yours to take.
People turn their heads when we walk past them. Guys hit on us and everyone cheers for us when we take the stage on karaoke nights. I know you dream about singing in front of a crowd when you’re all snuggled up in bed. I know you’re dancing in your bedroom singing into your hairbrush. You can hear the clapping, the cheering and the voices yelling “Yes, girl!” in your head.
I can hear it too. Outside my head.
You will be brave. Strong. Fearless. Reckless. You’re going to have a wild life full of sunshine and laughter. You’ll go on so many adventures. People will envy you for your excitement and for your joy. You’ll know your worth. You’ll get there. You’ll light up every room you enter, and you’ll get to keep all that beautiful imagination you have now.
I know it’s painfully hard for you to get out of bed in the morning. Let me tell you, one day, you’ll be thrilled to hear the alarm clock going off on your nightstand just because life is way too beautiful for sleeping. No dream will have a chance to compete with real life, no matter how adventurous it is. You’ll get up with thousands of butterflies in your little tummy. You will be so in love with yourself.
You hold so much strength, use it. Don’t be afraid of the world, it’s turning in your favor. Just for you. Remember to always hold your head high and don’t you ever forget to dance in the rain instead of hiding from the thunder. Don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself and speak the goddamn truth. Don’t let your fears get the best of you. Never back down just because someone tells you to. Never let someone get into your head. You wield so much power you don’t know of yet. Embrace every adventure and do venturesome things. It’ll be worth it. Take that risk. Don’t overthink it. Always believe in the good. Keep on dreaming. Keep on fighting. You will reach the mountain top and once you get there, you’ll finally be able to let go.

I take you with me wherever I go. You’re always in my heart. I promise to take care of you. I can’t wait for you to see all the pretty days.
All your wishes will come true one day.
You’ll be fine.

Sincerely,
Everything you want to be.
