Now that I have locked all the doors and windows and hidden every single toy that this house contains, I can tell you the horrifying story of that monstrous doll. Believe me when I say that it is what it takes to chill one’s spine…
It all started when Elinor’s foolish grandfather bought a doll at his favourite flea market. The doll was supposed to be a late Christmas gift. Her grandfather arrived late in the evening at Elinor’s house. She was startled when she saw the doll, but boy, did she know that it was more than just that. Now, I must admit, it looked magnificent, no wonder the girl fell for its charms. The doll looked just like her; it had black hair, pale skin, and a rather mischievous smile. Its eyes were so colourful and so tempting, that she even thought she saw a spark of life in them…
As Elinor went to bed, she put the wicked doll on a chair next to her bed. The doll’s eyes seemed to be watching her. “Good night, little me!” Elinor whispered, but when she had turned the lights off and was lying in bed with her eyes shut, Elinor heard a wicked whisper, “Sweet dreams, Elinor!” It was the doll. She knew it. But before Elinor could open her eyes, something stopped her from doing it. It felt as if she was swallowed by darkness.
The next thing Elinor saw was the doll sitting on her chair. One moment it sat still, but the other moment it looked up and grinned at Elinor, “Can I help you, Eli?” The girl was petrified. The only thing that made her speak was anger. “Yes, get off my chair and don’t call me “Eli”!” The doll frowned, “I’m afraid I can’t, but I can play with you…” “What? No, I don’t want to play!” Elinor stuttered.
“But I do!” hollered the doll before vanishing. Darkness. Nothing but darkness and a crazy laugh. Then, Elinor woke up. The doll was gone, but the child didn’t seem to be in her house on Winslow Street anymore.
The poor girl tried to find an exit from that “other” world, but the monstrous doll would always add something new to that world, which stopped her from escaping. It was terrible. Elinor soon became a teenager, after a while, a wonderful young woman. Years passed, and she was an old lady already and, once, she had come to peace at last, after all those lonely years in that world.
Now, they say that the doll is still somewhere out there, trapping poor souls in crazy dimensions. Actually, I heard some gossip about why the doll does that and I have a theory of my own, but that’s a completely different story…
