Trust Issues

In the midst of deceit, the protagonist sits on a heap of tissues,

pushed to the ground by his tRuSt IsSuEs.

Led astray, overgrown by dismay, 

he breeds on the shards of attempted redemption.

Fearing the ones he held dear,

every smile a dagger in disguise, welcoming eyes perfumed with the scent of lies.

Nemeses at every threshold, ticking time bombs in the catacombs of each bond formed.

All around, soldiers linger to strike under friendship’s guise,

suspicion’s vultures circling above, devouring love’s white doves.

So, on the battlefield, paranoia grows right out of his soul:

“You’re an overthinker, abandon hope, you won’t gain control”

With the weight of all those scars, for love he has no more regard.

Instead, he fears to choke on every glimmer of hope.

Every gesture, a charade of hidden blades, a maze in which love will be left unclaimed:

“Beware the facade, keep your heart forever on guard”


– I can’t, it’s too hard –

Hence, he builds a fortress and locks away his desire

to once extinguish mistrust’s fire, 

to find reprieve in the belief that not all stories are ridden with greed.

One day, amid all the doubt, he will find hope or at least a way to cope.

If he’s lucky, even the key to unlock the door of possibility.
